Faceted Search is a quick and compact means to modify search results based on categorical information. It is more focused than the Entity Launchpad described below. By default, Faceted Search shows the top 3 results for various entity types such as Domains, Topics, or Communicators. Users can click the More button to return the top 10 results instead of the top 3. A complete list of standard entity types appears below in D. Entity Launchpad.

As the Faceted Search legend indicates, blue bars behind each item are used to help evaluate the search results. The longer the bar, the more segments returned. Users can see the total number of segments returned in parentheses. The darker the bar, the higher the importance score. This reflects the extent to which the term is correlated with the current search.

By clicking one of the versions of an Add to search button to the right of the number of results returned...

users can add the term under investigation to the search with the AND connector to narrow search results or the OR connector to augment search results. When adding terms to the search, the prospective results will be shown in the thread previewer, allowing users to see how adding the term would affect the search.

By clicking on an entity in the Faceted Search, users can immediately visualize and preview the entity in the Connection Map…

or the Tree Map.

Users are now able to click on any entity in the Faceted Search Bar and preview segments pertaining to a selected entity.

By clicking on an entity in the Faceted Search, users can immediately visualize and preview the entity in the Connection Map or the Tree Map.

While in Connection Map view, clicking on an entity on the left Faceted Search panel will allow the user to preview the entity in the Connection Map, and preview search results on the Thread Preview panel on the right. The thickness of the line between connections is representative of how frequently the entity appears in communication.

While in Tree Map view, clicking on an entity on the left Faceted Search panel will allow the user to preview the entity in the Tree Map, and preview search results on the Thread Preview panel on the right. The darkness and area of each cluster in the highlighted yellow color is representative of how frequently the entity appears in communication.

Users can open the Entity Launchpad by clicking on the Icon in the upper left corner on the main page. This is a comprehensive view of the entity information introduced in the more focused Faceted Search described above.

The Entity Launchpad opens in a popup. Which entity types are displayed is determined by admin configuration. See Admin Guide Section 1 > E. Entity Models.

A user can check/uncheck the checkbox beside the entity type to show or hide entities on the Faceted Search on the main page or type a keyword to search for the target entity.

In the Entity Launchpad the information displayed varies between the views for each “type”. For example, the name of the entity, communications volume, social status, owned documents, and custodian status are displayed for Communicators. Also, there are columns for numbers of Wrote and Read which are used to calculate social status.

However, for Topics, Places, People, Organizations, Categories, Super Categories, Clusters, Money, Laws, Law Firms and Summary Phrases, only named entity and segment counts are displayed.

Domains view shows a bit more information with the communications, wrote, and read for each domain displayed.

Users can pick and choose which types to display and can rearrange the order by dragging the buttons on the left side of the check boxes.

Entity search: a user can also enter a keyword to find a targeted entity. For example, the following graphic shows the search results for entities that include the word “risk”:

Within the Entity Launchpad, users can view entities globally or from within the current search by setting the context switch to either Global or Local:

If Local is selected, users will only see entities from within the search results. If Global is selected, users will see entities from the entire dataset.

By choosing the ellipsis to the left of an entity name you can create or modify a search. For example, you may be looking at Vince Kaminski’s communications and decide to search topics which include the word “risk”:

You add “risk” to the search by choosing Add to search...

which reduces the results. Further, you might then add “risk-free” results to the search by choosing Add to search (with OR), which augments the search.

Occasionally Story Engine makes incorrect merges, or misses merging two of the same people during processing. This can be fixed by using the Merge entities, Move mentions or Move email addresses features in the Launchpad.

To open the Clean Up tool,

and select Merge entities or Move mentions or Move email addresses or Rename or Delete Entity.

NOTE: Only Communication list provides the “Move email addresses” feature. Other Entity types provide other combinations of the above options.

When you select the option to merge entities, a new page will pop up. At the top of the page you can search for the individual that the current entities belong to.

Check the box of the individual, click the Merge button towards the bottom of the screen to start merging.

When you select the option to Move Mentions, a new page will pop up.

You will be able to select the incorrect mention and move it to the correct individual by searching for their names in the search textbox, making the appropriate choices, and then clicking Move Mentions.

When you select the option to merge email addresses, a new page will pop up.

At the top of the page you can search for the email addresses associated with the current entity. Check the box of the individual email address, use the search bar beside the Move Email Address button to find the target entity, then click the Merge Email Address button to start the moving.

If an entity needs to be renamed, choose the ellipsis to the left of the entity and choose Rename.

Fill out the form as required and choose Apply. The entity name will be changed accordingly.

To remove all the annotations of a particular entity,

If this entity needs to be removed, choose the ellipsis to the left of the entity...

and choose Delete entity.

All instances of this entity-type annotation highlighting for this particular entity (“angry”) are removed throughout the storybook.
